Wheels falling off by the week. Probably too too heavy with talent, no depth (nt)
and that Blomqvist could be the answer to our problems out wide. Shows how much I know about football!
The problems go wider than just one or two players but there is something profoundly dispiriting about seeing Rondon and Iwobi in Everton shirts. Neither offers anything at all, game after game. A constant reminder, if one were needed, of just how far we are from being even a decent side, let alone one that has designs of competing at the top of the table.
I was thinking about this; maybe fans will remember a game during Moyes' first season with us, when we were fighting relegation after Walter Smith had finally been sacked.
We were playing Bolton Wanderers; each team had a player sent off in the first half, and we were winning 2 - 1 with goals from Pistone (yes, honestly) and Radzinski, when Moyes took off the experienced former Man U player Jesper Blomqvist for the untried Nick Chadwick.
Chadwick scored a few minutes from the end to make it 3 - 1 and more or less guarantee our safety.
Chadwick never "made it" at Everton, leaving for a lower league club within a year or so, but that goal was vital, and shows the value of giving an untried youngster a go when experienced players have failed.
Maybe Simms and Dobbin will never make it for us, but what exactly could we have lost if they'd been given the last 20 minutes yesterday, replacing Iwobi and Rondon?
