Re: Lets play the blame game
Excellent post. I often compare us to Leicester City. They ditched their 'jobs for the boys', ex-Foxes legends, when the Thai owners came in in 2011. Vichai threw them all out, started afresh and the rest is history. To this day they are a well-run, organised club, finding top talent and with a highly-respected manager (even if he is a bit of a tw*t). Until we get rid of all our hangers-on, starting with Kenwright, we will never be able to progress.
This is just guesswork and I have no evidence, but ....
Anyone who has been on here since the late 90s will know that one person is behind all the issues at Everton. That person being Bill Kenwright ..... the man who is Mr Everton and has single handedly held the club back for his own vanity.
At the time, Colm and many on here called Kenwright out on his disingenious behaviour. The club was never up for sale, it was always about getting a patsy to invest so long as they were not going to challenge our Chairman. Years passed by and nothing happened, then Usmanov is at ownership war with Kronke at Arsenal and he decides to offload some of his shares to his version of Smithers (an excellent bean counter but with no leadership skills .... a classic patsy who needs guidance). Kenwright obvious gets a sniff of this and offers to help Moshiri live the dream by investing in EFC (with the proviso that Uncle Bill will look after you at the Peoples Club so long as he stays Chairman).
Kenwright had survived at Everton by selling asset after asset and knew how to sell hope by changing a few faces every summer. He also knew by employing ex blues around him, he would have a loyal following that could be used against any internal heave by Moshiri or any Manager looking to change the way the club operated .... everything had to go through the Chairman.
It was all going well at the start and the two boys were hailed as saviours ..... but in reality they were ill equipped to run a football club and the cracks started to appear when the first few Managerial appointments failed. More money was thrown at the problem, but the underlying issue of owner and chairman doing different things continued. With Moshiri's well running dry, he was left with no option but to turn to his old boss and I have no doubt that things have now become very toxic at Board level.
All of this is a result of one man's desire to hold onm to power at 'his' club .... unfortunately it has come at a cost and the club is now a split camp where making decisions is a nightmare. I can imagine Moshiri doing one thing and Kenwright using his clique to fight against it if he was not happy.
Until Kenwright is out the door, the issues will not go away and I have a suspicion that project BMD will come under severe scrutiny in January as construction prices soar. Its going to get worse before it gets better and Wednesday night could be a key moment as a heavy defeat will see fans turn on the Board (I do wonder will the two boys show up to face the music).
As I said, its only my guess as to whats wrong and Im sure others differ.
