I wouldn't mind those clubs ####ing off but I'm pretty sure current TV and sponsorship deals have stipulations for such events. Suddenly clubs could lose most of their income while expenditure (mainly player wages) would stay the same.
I'd guess in an SL type scenario income would drop by at least half. After all, it's not Everton or West Ham who bring the big crowds to the telly. Ticketing only makes about 20 million for us. Deals would be better than Championship's but nowhere near current ones.
Most clubs would struggle to survive this unless they can simply release the players for free.
For us overseas fans this would probably also mean less matches on the telly.
the Championship and how it has got on since the Premier league was formed.......
Has it developed as a league ?
has attendances increased compared to the PL ?
have the promotion teams succeeded ?
have the teams more money ?
If the PL loses 6/7 teams to a super league, how will fixture priority work ..... will the TV money clubs get to dictate kick off times?
There are so many issues surrounding a breakaway league and big investors will always look to put profits before people. This is where the Government needs to step in and protect the game ..... sadly that is not going to happen at the moment.
