There are serious shortages of drivers in Germany and Poland
to the extent that some companies in Germany have made offers to British drivers.
There is actually no fuel shortage. Supplies are plentiful. Its distribution, however, is about to be affected.
A fuel shortage there?
because the border checks have meant that some EU drivers no longer can be bothered with the hassle.
The main reason, though, is that young HGV drivers are not joining the profession in sufficient numbers: the average age is 55. Changes to the tax rules have also acted as a deterrent to recruitment. Above all, the pandemic has caused mayhem with the scheduling of driving tests and the issue of licences. Brexit is an issue, but itís nowhere near being the main factor.
