In it's current guise the academy is a complete waste of money.
It needs to produce first team ready players or at least 15/20m in sales each season. We occasionally get fleeting substitute appearances but generally lose players at contract end or rake in pennies.
The last player to properly break through - Davies, almost 5 years ago.
Brands has previously mentioned he likes academies to have that clubs DNA and welcomes the idea of former players in staff. The problem we have is most ex Everton players of working age are serial underachievers. I'd argue only Baines of our current staff made the best of his career. (apart from the staying at Everton bit)
A DoF should at the very least have total control of the academy. If the ex-player job club isn't producing he needs to try and hire the very best coaches, whatever their background.
The whole set up is a shambles, it has been for years.
FC Cosy is the perfect name for it.
