6 or 7 minutes or so that honestly seemed like you were dreaming.
Hard to pick a man of the match - Doucoure and Allan both worked their socks off. But it does show that formation/tactics or ‘shape’ make a real difference. The 5 at the back allowed them to dominate in the first half.
Their left back Charlie Taylor was impressive - real pace and aggression. He gave Coleman, and at times Townsend, a tough time early on. Once Benitez changed the shape though, we looked so much better and even Taylor was seen as at fault by Neville for letting Townsend shoot from so far out.
Benitez referenced the effect the crowd had in his interview on Sky post match.
These are memorable ‘We were there’ nights…
We stayed in the stands for a lot longer than normal afterwards.
Onwards and hopefully further upwards.
