In the box I think he might have been able
to throw a wild tackle in. But not sure it would have been just a yellow. Hi risk, but probably worth taking given the prospect of a goal was imminent.
I'd have probably still taken him down, given the chance of Pickford from the spot and the fact that it would only be a yellow.
I don't think Keane gets close enough to be able to bring him down, especially outside the box.
That said I'm not sure Keane would have enough cynicism to do that had he got close enough...
Haven't seen it again since to check, but although Keane was never gonna catch him, I felt (At the time) that he had an opportunity to take him down outside the box, take the yellow card and stop the attack but I might have been wrong, given he runs like he's in treacle, he may have been nowhere near him!
Keane does not read the play properly and is in no-man's land.
At this point, the goal was not a certainty.
But he was so messed up by his error that he did not recover fast enough to pick up the runner streaming into the gap left by Mina who had had to come across to cover the gap left by Keane.
To me that's a double screw up - and two mistakes that should not be happening.
I've previously stated that I did not mind selling one of Holgate, Mina or Keane. I was wrong. Keane is the one to sell and at this point I would sell for anything from 15M or up... Holgate has his problems, but I think they can be ironed out and improved by Benítez.
Left footed, quick, good age…damn our previous spending.
The more I watch the replays of Keane’s turning circle against Leeds the more I wish we’d bring in a quality centre back. The Southampton goal was stupid but a brain fart; the Leeds one is a constant vulnerability. Anything down his sides, or requiring him to turn quickly is a problem. Worse still when he’s 10 yards outside of our box.
