I've already resigned myself to a mediocre season. However, this means if we do well...
...I'll be pleasantly surprised, and feel better than had I expected us to do well, and then we did do well, because that would just be meeting my expectations and nothing special.
I can't go too far though, if I start disbelieving myself that we'll have a mediocre season because I am placing too much hope on us actually doing better than I expect, then I will be disappointed if we don't do better than have a mediocre season.
The balance the books rhetoric is coming thick and fast now. Like or loathe the manager, a number of these individuals who will be "bigged up" over the next two weeks will lose him his job. As with previous managers, his faith will be mis-placed.
Sorry for the lack of optimism
