Re: one thing about our (potential) outgoings
That’s a fair point. I just took the figure from reports at that time.
How does anyone really know the wages? They're not published anywhere are they?
If we've put Holgate on 70k a week though that is crazy
Holgate is on £70k per week. I remember wondering g what they were playing at, giving that kind of money to a bloke that had only a few months of good form.
This club needs to be rebooted.
I know we've shifted a fair bit but need to keep going - if selling is necessary because of the wage bill it's understandable that we'd look to sell the high earners first.
I pulled up the weekly wages of the ten players I've previously brought up. There may be one or two that are off but it gives you a good overall picture:
For example, it's likely we'll sell one of Mina, Holgate and Keane. On the basis of of wages, it would make most sense to sell Mina who is on 120K, but to do that you also need to find another team willing to pay that. If you can't do that, Keane would be next (and probably more likely). In fact I suspect it is the top earners who are the toughest to shift, it's those on intermediary wages that will be the easiest.
Shifting JJK is not a priority until we bring an new RB, say Dumfries, at which point we deffo don't need three right backs.
I'm not sure about Holgate and Davies - I would have expected them to have been on more, especially Holgate who is under contract until 2025. Davies currently has two years left. I would have thought they were on ~50k, maybe someone can confirm this either way.
Iwobi has three years to go. I hope Benítez can get a tune out of him, but if not we might end up loaning him out - a year in Spain or Germany may do him some good and help him develop, or a year in France may allow him to have a bit of a Moise Kean experience.
This an interesting dimension of what Brands is working on, working with clubs who might be interested in these players, but then there is the question of wages and transfer fees, the players we are looking to bring in and how all this jives from a sporting perspective. Marcel's playing 5D chess in the marketplace right now...
