Before all seater stadiums, there were far fewer season ticket holders, and hence it was easier to get derby tickets. Everton used to give the whole Anfield away section allocation to lottery ticket agents as a perk, so large numbers of Evertonians would have to get tickets for other parts of Anfield either when they went on general sale or through reciprocal arrangements with mates who were reds who would then go together. Result was thousands of Evertonians on the Kop, and Kopites all over the paddock and the street end.
