I don't know, tougher legal framework?
I'm sure there's a lot of people far more qualified than me who do know how it could be done.
Ultimately, the pressure would have to come from below, from the people. Which, as the subject of this thread shows, is difficult. Trust, reality, authority have all been significantly weakened, and in that vacuum various twats have stepped up to fill the gap.
I think that we (the UK, US and whoever is dragged with them) are pretty screwed. The current system will cling on for as long as possible, in denial of it's fate, preventing a progressive turn to something new, instead diverting the pressure towards authoritarianism, violence and ignorance. The signs of that process are already in evidence.
How do you make the politicians do that and not be swayed by the rich who fund their campaigns? Even if you ban all campaign funding they still hold a lot of power, as a politician it's hard to go against the rich who can promise you fat cat jobs if you are not selected in the next elections.
And in any case, rich can pay lobbyists and the only way to stop that would be to stop people from talking to the politicians at all which would be much worse.
A system by which a state functions in the interests of a majority of it's members & society generally.
Of the breakdown of the neoliberal/corporate/Anglo-American paradigm and the managed democratic system engendered within it.
If we had true democracy and all that entails, people would feel they had greater control of their destiny, greater agency - a genuine avenue to change their situations.
thus believing in these conspiracy theories makes them think that they are in some sort of control of their own destiny.
When, ironically, it is the exact opposite.
