personally, he's not on top of my list as a managerial candidate, but the fact that he managed them lot has nothing to do with that. i simply think that other options are preferable - even duncan would get the nod for me. hey, maybe they're negotiating to have him come in as assistant manager to big dunc? that'd be a laugh...
for me, the main issue is that certain part of the fanbase would be very unhappy about it. for me, though, allardyce was an abomination of a managerial signing and a portion of the fan base never took to him at all, in a similar vein. didn't stop them appointing sam, and eventually that told in support and performances - and that's the bottom line as far as a club is concerned.
if benitez comes in and says 'he hopes to be made as welcome as shankly was when he crossed the park' then i think he instantly wins a chunk of the fanbase over. a few hints that he detests the lfc ownership, some good results and good performances, and some decent signings this summer then i think a lot of the hatred melts away.
