I agree with you - but it IS the reality nt
Grown men FURIOUS about a football club maybe appointing a manger they disapprove of.
Honestly people need to get a grip and find some purpose in their lives. The amount of fume and anger about something that may or may not happen and that you have zero influence over is frankly staggering.
...that, regardless of everything else you have on that list, these two items:
- He has links to the shite (but so did Ablett, Beardsley, Sheedy, Hutchison, etc)
- He said one upsetting thing about us many years ago
instantly alienate a large proportion of our fanbase - rightly or wrongly - that IS the reality
There are a lot of Evertonians that simply will not give him a chance - they will NEVER accept him as our manager and they will be FURIOUS that the club have appointed him.
Behind THAT group, there will also be a large group who will maybe begrudgingly accept his appointment, but will immediately turn on him (and the club) as soon as we have a run of bad results or he makes a questionable substitution or signing, or ANYTHING they perceive as negative (and that WILL happen)
Essentially we would be starting a mile behind the starting line if we appointed him and he would have to work miracles to even get us to the start line (and as I said, some people will NEVER accept him)
We're a fairly level-headed bunch on here, we can rationalise, we can overlook certain things etc. but we aren't reflective of our fanbase.
That is the reality of the situation.
You can ignore the rest of the things on your list because none of them come close to outweighing those two points - the conversation shouldn't even get to his footballing credentials.
Appointing him would be suicidal I think - we are starting from scratch yet again and we need to be united behind a new manager as a fanbase and as a club. This appointment would divide it more than ever and I'd take pretty much anyone over Benitez because of that.
I'd rather die with our history than live with theirs...
