Well I think his role at Newcastle was far more as Ezy describes...
...perhaps he was initially promised some money, because my understanding is in the end he left because he couldn't get any guarantees of money to spend.
Ashley was (is) trying to sell the club, so relegation for him was a massive problem for a potential sale, so hiring a safe pair of hands was exactly what he wanted.
Minimum spend, and stay up.
I just don't think we're in that same situation. The appointment of Carlo was intended to help elevate us towards the CL places, clearly there is ambition there.
I don't see why that would have suddenly changed, especially if Usmanov is in the background funding it somehow.
A big name who will (still) have enough links/profile to sign further names and lift us further up the table.
That might work or might not, don’t ask me.
But it’s undermined anyway because it is (would) completely split the fan base.
Which if anything could make it a dangerous appointment as he could sign a few name players but get hounded out soon and leave us with even more of a mish mash of a squad.
If he goes through with it then he shows contempt for the fans. Someone compared it to the ESL on that front. Wouldn’t go that far as the ESL was forever but it’s in the same vein.
It's an appointment that should in the eyes of Moshiri, guarantee we're still a premier league club by 2024.
It's a pretty shortsighted shithouse appointment. But there you go. We need our EPL status and the revenue. Looking forward to seeing how Moshiri and Brands handle being called out by Rafa for not backing him when things inevitably go tits up.
