Agreed about the difference between day to day club mgmt and International
with regards to training and fitness. But not with regards to tactics. The manager still has to select the team, decide on formation and tactics. And tactics is probably the biggest aspect of International football. Something Roberto is clearly good at. Time and again he sets his teams up to expose the opposition weaknesses and play to his strengths. The perfect example of this was Belgiums defeat of Brazil in Russia. Probably one of Belgiums greatest results. A game were he changed tact and formation to expose the space in behind the full backs and Brazil couldn't handle De Bruyne in the false 9. And Roberto can still read the game and make game changing tweaks and subs.
With regards to his amazing players, have you seen Belgiums defence? It's a collection of pensioners and mistake machines. Plus apart from Hazard (coming back to fitness), De Bruyne (coming Back to fitness) and Lukaku, what real talent do they have in the squad?
Courtois is a good keeper and Witsel (who had been out since January) is a big player for them. But there are much better squads in the competition.
Considering he has only managed Belgium since his departure, it is really difficult to assess in any meaningful way. International football is a totally different proposition thant the daily management in clubs. Tactics are arguably less important in international footie, simply because there is less time to practice with the team.
And he has some amazing players at his disposal at Belgium, which obviously makes a big difference too.
In short, is there really any strong indication that he has improved his shortcomings?
Two semi finals, attractive football. Recruiting the likes of Lukaku. First away win at United in 20 plus years), records points total
Not good enough, but if he has matured and learned from his mistakes then is he such a bad shout?
i wonder whose would be the worst
I can't see Roberto coming back. I don't think we'll offer him the job and he'll have plenty of offers after the Euro's.
