As someone who can get you 7th place and into Europe (which doesnít sound too bad from where I am)
Or someone who can move a club several levels higher.
If can take a Championship club into Europe can he take a top 10 club into Champions league? Letís see.
And if it turns out that ďallĒ he can do it turn us into a well organised, high tempo side that attracts quality young players, regularly finishes top 7 but not quite able to get us top 4Ö. Then maybe we start looking for a new manager. But am not sure a complete unknown like Galtier is an obvious better candidate.
Heís got a better profile for doing what we want than Carlo had, who we ultimately werenít ready for.
It would be an appointment that reframes the ambition of the club.
Rightly or wrongly Ancelotti talked about getting into Europe and then the top 4.
He failed on Europe this season and landed 10th, albeit with 59points.
This would be saying, top half is fine, Europe a bonus.
It would be an uninspired appointment signalling a drop in ambition in the immediate term.
I wouldn't have wanted Moyes back but I think he'd have been a better appointment.
It's not a disaster, but it's not exactly saying ok we can take on Spurs and Arsenal and have a real crack at getting up there.
If it happens I hope I'm wrong, just feels like settling.
