Taking a five year view who has altered a club more than NES? he saved Wolves NT
First, they really adore him in Wolverhampton. He did a great job until this season there. Finished 7th with promoted team and repeated that next season.
He implemented his style at Wolves in five weeks in preseason. He didn't need a full year or two.
We don't have any proper wingers. He doesn't use them. So money can be spent elsewhere. Digne should work well as left wingback so right side is sorted if Brands finds a good wing-back there. By all accounts this Dumfries lad should work there. So rest of the money can go towards central players.
Wolves was a good counter-attacking team. Richarlison and DCL should fit well into that.
I don't think he was quite as defensive earlier at Porto and Valencia. And when Wolves played well I thought they looked good going forward.
NES expects his players to fight hard.
My biggest worry is I read he's a "my way or the highway" type. If you don't properly buy into his ideologies you are out. Not sure how our players will take to that. Championship players are a very different type to start with.
One thing to remember with these manager signings is is that there are several factors at play. Main one is obviously who is really available and which of those is willing to come. Any manager will look at Everton's previous managers and see the churn. We are not exactly the most coveted job in the market. Galtier for instance already had a nice gig set in Nice. Some of the targets might not have been interested or had demands that could not be met. So saying we should have signed this or that is pretty pointless - we don't know if they really ever were options.
But yeah, NES wouldn't have been my first or third choice either. But if he's the guy then let's hope we get a few good seasons out of him before the inevitable crash and burn the Everton way.
