I presume creating a model that ensured that most of the football wealth was kept by the top teams..
... whilst previously there was far more redistribution amongst teams lower down the pyramid. Ultimately that has been damaging to Everton as well because we stopped being one of those top teams in the 90s and since then English football has been almost completely dominated by the same half dozen teams who have won the vast majority of the 3 domestic trophies contested year after year.
To my way of thinking we can't go around taking the moral high ground on others actions until we put our own house in order first. A failure by us and our fans to address the wrongs done by our club in the formation of the Premier League will (and I see already has in some places) be used as a stick to beat us with by those we are now trying to get to change.
If this whole episode is to serve as a motivator to address the issues in the game we all need to be open to fixing the wrongs of the past as well as preventing future wrongs.
None of know. I would say, however...
We were undoubtedly one of the twats who pushed for the premier league. It’s disingenuous to try to paint that as motivated by anything but greed. But we’re not controlled by the same people as them.
We do good shit in the community but then, as far as I know, so does City. So that’s not necessarily an argument to say we wouldn’t have joined.
I’d hope we wouldn’t have but who knows?
