I think you are all being too kind
I was under the impression that he had a good network of contacts around Europe, yet most of his signings havent worked out yet.
If you think of the likes of St Maximin, Rafinha at Leeds even Sarr at Watford, all players that were bought on the cheap, woujld have improved us no end and now are worth probably three times as much.
I was hoping Brands would have unearthed these types of players. He hasnt as yet and instead overpaid on players who will have little resale value. Thats my main concern.
Bernard was worth the punt on a free transfer. Gomes was brilliant initially, would have been hard not to sign him. Delph was someone brought in to fix an issue on the cheap but didn't work out. Iwobi... I understand why he was bought but it's just not happening. If you look at the team, he's still the second most creative player in the team. That's not much but the maddening thing is he's got the ingredients but he's not using them apart from a few flashes.
Iwobi, Bernard, Gomes, Kean, Delph, were all his signings. Bad luck on Gbamin though.
Jury is still out on him for sure but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the next few years. He does need to step up though.
...we've only really got our act together in the last year really - since getting Ancelotti in I'd say.
Of course I'm not 100% happy with what he's (apparently - none of us really know) done, but I was impressed when we got him, he seems settled and respected at the club and as you say - the chopping and changing all the time helps no-one, so...overall I'm very happy to give him more time to prove that he can REALLY push us forwards.
Still some reservations about him (mostly Iwobi) and whether the Ancelotti appointment undermines whatever strategy we had, but I wouldn't swap our owner, CEO or manager with anyone else in world football and happy to continue with a highly respected DoF who may still turn out to be one of the best appointments we make.
I'd like more Branthwaite, Godfrey, Kean, Nkounkou signings and also enough time to see that transfer strategy pay off.
And while the likes of Tosun, Besic, Walcott and Bolasie are still on our books it's hard to judge him too much. This summer surely the dead wood will be clear and we'll start seeing a Brands/Carlo SQUAD.
