After 20 years or so chasing round the world as a contractor I am contemplating my late 50s as a extremely content public servant.
I work a flexible 39 hour week monday to friday and get a decent lob every two weeks regardless of performance.
All I really worry about now is getting my boat onto the lakes, the poor state of my golf game and whatever is going wrong at Goodison at the moment.
Work life balance is everything.
I left got a new job with less responsibilities and stress and now enjoy going into work as opposed to hating it.
I will now live 10 yrs longer.
get out asap, take as much as you can and enjoy your life. I hit 50 and suddenly found I was treated differently with all the talk being about 'new' thinking. I knew it was garbage, but also recognised that the world around me was changing and my bosses were happier dealing with the younger (more innocent) generation as opposed to me (battle hardened and more likely to call them out).
I changed jobs and a decade later, I think it was the making if me. I now have no pressure and can enjoy life far more ...... 15 hour days no way Jose, life is too short.
Work life balance is everything and at 57 you are not getting any younger .... do yourself a favour and stop fighting the inevitable would be my advice.
