But the good news, under reported of course, is the vaccines have reduced the deaths here to the point there is no 3rd wave of deaths at all. Weeks into wave 3 and we still have less deaths than is usual for the time of year. This in a country with no lockdown just targeted measures. And I sense this has made people think itís kind of Ďoverí. Which it isnít as long as the hospitals are overloaded, but it will be soon as the vaccines get to more adults and Ďdefangí the virus, including these variants we read about. Remember if they stop serious illness, they do what we need. If they stop infection thatís a bonus.
Couple of good articles:
This pretty much summarises how I feel. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/04/15/swedens-covid-strategy-disaster-still-popular/
This on variants. https://www.thestreet.com/latest-news/there-are-no-covid-super-strains-yet-says-virologist-vincent-racaniello
The thing is to get the vaccine to as many vulnerable as possible. Once we have had it then any vaccine breaking infection likely not to be serious, and then we are into the realms of influenza.
