The People's Forum: with iPlayer are you able to download programs as well as stream?

I use VyperVPN and while it works really well for multi-location VPN servers I can't download programs from iPlayer, although streaming works fine. Conversely for my HBO account it downloads and streams ok.

Never used one before either on a PC or on my smart phone. I understand that I should be for security reasons and also because I want to watch BBC Iplayer when I am abroad. Which is the best one to use ? Are any of the free ones worth having or just to risky? Somebody in work mentioned NordVPN. Is it decent. Worth paying money for a decent VPN, I assume? Don't know the first thing about VPN's, so thanks for the advice.
