Which political party will seriously champion it and which corporate media outlets will seriously back them? Who will explain how it might directly affect my life, giving me a reason to care about it as much as an immigrant taking my job? Previous Message
what you have done (well) is explain and categories the divisions, what ever the explanation for them, they are real, and while they are real, reaching a consensus to address the root causes is impossible...classic chicken and egg.
I actually think a good starting point is what unites us, other than the wealthy group, we all probably agree on a lot, an example I think would be the likes of off shore tax, surely the socialist left and the working class right agree there? Lets focus on a few of things we might agree on? Previous Message
I think the crucial factor is who controls state-corporate media. And at present it’s a mixture of corporations, who - by law - care nothing except for profit maximization; the state-funded and neoliberal/finance captured BBC; and oligarchs.
That’s who will midwife the next model. Can’t imagine it’ll be very nice really.
Division is both the product and symptom of our broken system. It’s the manifestation of wealth/power blocs dueling for control. What we - in general - think is what these power blocs want us to think by way of the media organs mentioned above.
It’s worth mentioning that there is no state-corporate left wing media. If you think about markets/products/opportunities you’d imagine there’d be at least one - there’s more than a niche there. But there isn’t.
What actual divisions do we have? Loosely speaking, two groups: The majority who want equality, safety, material well-being, etc versus the minority who have lots - wealth and power - and want more.
But after that’s been filtered through the state-corporate media, what divisions do we have? Very loosely, 4 groups: the same minority as above who fight to retain and grow the already massive amount of wealth and power they possess; the managerial and professional, etc classes who are ok to go along with the minority as long as they’re kept oblivious to it; A large group of the working class who go along with the minority because they’re led to believe that immigration and culturally liberal attitudes are to blame for their plight. Something which is further exploited by far right non-state/corporate entities; A smaller, mixed class group that is largely sceptical of state-corporate media, ingesting independent left wing news/info instead, but has a tendency to be very defensive and suspicious. how is there any hope of reaching anything like consensus on what that new socio economic model should be? Previous Message
If you pump out enough news/info that’s either revealed to be out and out bollocks and/or promotes a status quo that isn’t working for the vast majority, you lose trust.
In that scenario, it’s far easier for non-state/corporate sources to influence people - whether that be with the truth or a different flavour of bullshit.
Ultimately, it’s a significant indication that the current socio-economic system is irreparably ####ed. What it’ll be replaced with depends on how quickly the situation is comprehended. Unfortunately, it’s people on the right who have moved quicker and, crucially, have benefitted from a calamitous focus instead on the left. But then it’s the left that’s the bigger threat to wealth and power I suppose, and that’s what controls the spotlights and megaphones. Previous Message
So much effort spent convincing people that expertise is just an opinion during the Brexit campaign now come home to roost. Previous Message
I get that the government could have done better, and some folk may have over played the issue. I think everyone accepts vaccines shouldnt be rushed out either, and that masks arent a golden bullet to saving the world.
But the folk pushing things to the extreme are bonkers, one tiny step from flat earthers.
There is a 5G mask going up 350 metres from my daughters school, 3 kids from my daughters class have been moved to a different school by their parents because of this, oddly it doesnt yet include the main crackpot anti vax mother.
It really feels like the last 5/6 years people have decided to be stupid
The first 20 years of the internet werent this mad, were they ?
We used to laugh at David Icke, now people are believing him
