By that, I donít mean condone his challenge, if he hasnít already he hopefully will apologise to VVD. Me must stick up for him and get behind him. Playing in empty stadiums again helps as plenty of Evertonians have given up on him and he would be subject to plenty of stick at Goodison.
Problem with the media storm is we never seem to have the right to reply. It was pleasing to see Carragher defending him as he could easily have not done to appease Liverpool fans. And it was great to see him cut Souness down. Then you have whiter than white Shearer who no doubt has an agenda with Pickford due to the Sunderland link.
Itís a shitstorm out of nothing and hopefully the next controversial moment wont be far away to deflect the attention away.
In the meantime let some of their fans and ex-players in the media embarrass themselves.
I actually fear for him a bit. In the sense that there seems to be such a groundswell of vitriol towards him in the media I really feel he good be attacked in the street or something. Its just getting a bit much now. It will be interesting to see how Carlo manages this. Pickford obviously is the type of person who lets things get to him, does he play next week or does he be kept out of the limelight? I'm glad we are playing in empty stadiums this season as I reckon the abuse and/or threats he might have received at Anfield could have a real effect on him. He's a good keeper and saved us more points than he has lost us this season, however, I'm tired of the headlines and the talk of him about this and that and everything else. I think its best that he move on next summer. I'm predicting that Burnley will be relegated this season and we will buy Pope and let Pickford go. At their best Pickford is better than Pope but generally Pope is more reliable. And reliability is what we need more than anything else from a keeper right now.
