To me at least, pulling off a spectacular save or three in a game doesn't in any way excuse failing the simple stuff.
Defenders need to be dead certain the keeper will manage this, and they build confidence from that fact. Right now, playing in front of Pickford must be a nightmare never knowing what might happen next.
Again, to me, what sets a good or great goalie apart from a bad one is that he does the simple stuff without fault or panic and also regularly pulls off the more difficult stuff.
Yes, even the good/great goalies sometimes makes mistakes, but never as often and in the way Pickford is doing..
So to me he's a poor keeper. I know others here view things differently, and that's up to them.
Just curious.. am I oversimplifying things?
