Did we ever lose when Parky played? There was that incredible
stat about the number of games Parky had played in and we hadn't lost? I'm sure we must've eventually. Of all the players we've lost through injury his was the worst and had the biggest impact on the team.
Hinchy was the best set piece taker we've ever had at the club, especially from corners. Much better left foot than Baines, who just loved hitting that first man. Hinchy was like a left footed Beckham.
They were the two key players in that side. Back then I calculated the difference in points when Parkinson played and when he didn't and the difference was ridiculous (can't remember the numbers any more, tho). Hinchcliffe was like a pre-Baines in that he took all the set pieces and corners and there was no-one near his level.
Neither never got back to even near their pre-injury level, those injuries pretty much finished their careers. Before their injuries we were 6th in the table and grinding results (November -96). I remember someone saying at that point we are the dark horses for the title. A few months later Royle had left after he couldn't solve the problem of being without his key players (results went down the drain and he got desperate and tried to sign some players etc. You know the story.)
actually winning some silverware and then looking like a proper team for one season at least! Suppose Kanchelskis' blistering form was papering over a lot of cracks, with hindsight. The Sheff Wed hat-trick being the real pinnacle. Another false dawn...
If that asking price is correct i imagine there will be quite a few interested parties.
Mad come down given we were quoted £80 million last summer.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.
