If another player took the penalty then you'd have more of a case...
...but surely the fact he took it himself means it's not an assist, if you take the common sense definition of an assist as a contribution that helps another player score.
Otherwise, you could equally say an assist would be kicking the ball past a player and running around him the other side, collecting the ball and scoring.
Bottom line for me, is an assist is one player assisting another player. If he is just doing something that later helps himself score, then where do you draw the line?
I would argue for the purpose of the bet that I am not counting his penalty goal as a goal scored by him. Had another player taken the penalty and scored my bet would stand as he later scored a goal.
Seems fair to me
Score and have an assist. 23/1. Abamayung was brought down for the penalty. Is this not an assist? Paddy donít think so and have marked my bet as lost. Thoughts?
