Changed early 80s I think

Before then it was the Cup final. the England Scotland game, England world cup games and European finals. That was about it.
Even then it took ages before there was a live league game at Goodison. Was Chelsea in 85-86 the first one ?
one reason people used to be more arsed was, it was generally one of the few games that was on tv.
How many live games were there in the 70s and 80s on tv, a dozen a season maybe ?
These days (pre covid) you can probably without much hassle watch 3 or 4 games a day on tv, most days of the week.
So maybe a drop in fan interest is just down to football tv saturation ?
One thing I dont buy though is the media saying - big clubs dont take it serious - looking at the semi finalists and winners over the past 30 years and its a more closed shop than ever. Its the smaller clubs who take it less seriously, because the league means ££££££.
But yeah, I guess its lost some charm because there is so much footy on tv.
