Yep, its not the time for 'marquee' signings if you ask me. NT
We need to set realistic ambitions for next season, and there's simply too much that needs to change for us to be challenging for trophies or pushing the top four from where we're at, right now. It's not impossible but it's not realistic. Players like Immobile are for those teams; they're at a stage in their career where you bring them in if you're ready to compete.
- Fix the midfield
- Build on the defence
- Resolve the goalkeeper problem
- Establish a system and style of play
These things would provide foundations for us to kick on in future seasons. It will require people downgrading their expectations to simply laying foundations this year, so that we're in a better position 12 months from now.
I fully expect we'll chase rainbows but I'd be quite happy to see us fix the spine, build foundations, shift out deadwood, and be in a stronger position 12 months from now where we might start to think bigger again.
As Neil said (paraphrasing), it's time to stop the thrill-seeking and just get some building blocks in place.
