i've had a whole bunch of injuries over the years - multiple car accidents, a motorbike accident, and some stupid thing going on with my elbow at the moment, too. it's a difficult thing to deal with when your body lets you down, and when the repairs that are supposed to make things better don't help, either. for me, it was mostly about distraction and/or finding ways to get around it. get the new op out of the way, and then work with your physio and doctor to get the best outcome for yourself. be prepared to work hard, because putting yourself through that and going further than the bare minimum is what will get you there. it's your life, and your mobility, and you're the person who'll get it back by working hard at the end of the day.
i'd recommend getting a decent ice pack - really helps me dealing with my injuries, even just in the recovery stage
