Here I go again
We were nearly sold years ago, only for Phillip Green (who at the time guaranteed all our debt, so effectively controlled us) to change his mind in the middle of DD & call the deal off.
No reason given.
Bill’s condition on selling was To be life chairman & he was happy for the deal to go through.
He was out-manoeuvred...
The buyer went & bought Man City instead.
At the time I was very friendly with someone very close to the deal on the buyer’s side.
However, I only had the story from their side so believe what you like
he has surrounded himself with a majority of people that he has either employed or brought to the club. His power base is throughout the club and he can cause all sort of problems if it suits his agenda.
The man loves Everton, but unfortunately he loves his persona more hence his ego will not let him walk away. I have no doubt that in his mind, he has kept the club going on a shoestring and done whats right .... maybe he's right, but I cant help feeling he held the club back and should have sold* it years ago. I fully expect his plan is to have his name immortalized on the main stand in the new stadium (if it ever happens)and then try to walk away the hero as he cuts the ribbon .
*the club was never officially put up for sale, Bill always talked about looking for investment 24/7.
losing just a little more faith every day, and credibility too apparently
