I know all that 'clubs identity' stuff can be a overdone. But it did feel like Everton today! Passionate, blood and thunder football, headed goals, great atmosphere, if we have an identity thats it isnt it?
Agree on the goal kicks. Had to come to hate that splitting the centre-halves and trying to play out every time. Brought unnecessary untold pressure on ourselves.
first game I've been to in ages
excited, nervous, tense, stressful. Early goal helped, loved that we played 442. Players all seemed to be playing for each other, no mardyness.
Sidibie cross for first goal was superb, he was brilliant throughout, as was DCL who barely stopped chasing. Holgate was my man of match though, immense throughout, taking control at times when it was needed.
I thought subbing Richarlison was right tbh, he'd scored, got a yellow, been kicked around and been down two or three times holding his leg, Davies didnt quite seem to know where he was playing, but it worked out in the end.
Duncan said Friday he isnt ready for the job yet, and I believe him, he doesnt want it now, and I'm good with that. He showed today he could get them organised in a 442 and fighting for every ball, not one of them let themselves or the team down. We had a little bit of luck on a couple of occasions which we've deserved, not least when Keane made a mistake turning into their defender and gifting them a chance, pretty much his only big mistake though.
Interesting to note we didnt play out from the back - pretty sure every goal keep was kicked long, and I'm ok with that given our situation. Also loved the signs of 'professionalism' from some of our players, taking a sit down on the pitch when they had a knock, preventing the game going on, allowing for a breather. Walcott especially after the third, could have walked off, but chose to sit in their half, allowing things to calm down and settle, get the sub on and calm things down.
Overall it felt quite emotional, first time at Goodison in too long, I need to make the effort more, at final whistle I stayed around until the stewards moved us on, just soaking it up.
We dont need to panic appoint a stop gap now, thats not to say give him til end of season, but we can give him a bit of time whilst we get the right person for the job, not just the available person.
