Not saying things are peachy, far from it. We have made a poor start overall given the quality of opposition and there are obvious defensive problems to address.
I would hope Silva has had them watching reruns of the goals, particularly the first and last. My concern is that they are still not getting the way he wants them to play. Their first was a perfect lesson in how not to execute zonal marking. That's on him. It's not the system itself that is wrong but if it's not working then he needs to change it, get them to implement it properly, or find players that can.
Keane and Mina got a lot of criticism at the weekend, and rightly so. What on earth was going on in the build-up to Wilson's goal? Can't blame the system for that, it's poor awareness and positional discipline. Can you teach these things? I'm not sure. I am not ready to give up on either yet, I think that, by and large, they have made fairly decent starts to the season and need to further develop their understanding. I worry though that neither is really an organiser or leader, and Mina in particularly has a tendency to go AWOL at times.
Plenty to work on.
