The set up isn't inventive. We've been fortunate

that we've had a certain degree of consistency with the team. everyone now understands their roles within the system, everyone puts a shift in and we've actually got some very good players who don't shirk their responsibilities.
Brands said Silva improves players. Based on where we where at the beginning of last season compared to how we finished it, it's very difficult to disagree with Don Marcel.
I think it’s a bit misleading to treat the end of season results as part of the same run as this season. But throughout that sequence we’ve been a bit lucky. We are still very open and take a lot of risks in possession.
Btw I totally agree that we’ve improved defensively since the derby.
But being the only PL team with 2 consecutive clean sheets is NOT because we have a manager who is prioritising strong defensive performances and has created an innovative setup that is ahead of what other teams are doing. It’s more a case of tightening up, reasonable fixtures, and a bit of luck.
Given the length of the run, that would seem to be a hell of a lot of luck then!
i appreciate we had a good spell at the end of last season but Marco is a high variance manager so we shouldn’t get carried away about a string of good luck.
If Allardyce has this record you’d know it’s deliberate and worth studying but if Silva was trying to keep clean sheets above all else he’d have a different set up.
2 clean sheets against mid table sides is a decent effort but hardly demonstrates that we’re defensive pioneers
...top-notch article in the Echo:
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.
