I was chatting with a bunch of friends last week. All would have voted remain but didn't (they're based overseas and didn't vote). Most of them have deleted any Facebook friends who post positively about Brexit. I know other people who would take the same view but from the other side of the argument. Increasingly I see that instead of trying to engage in debate (particularly based on facts) we dismiss the views of others to the point of disparagement.
The flaw I see in Reid's argument is that people like him are all right even if they voted differently. But it's those others in a different social class who are wrong and worthy of nothing but contempt. I don't see how that's bringing people together - it feels like he's sought the moral high ground and then fallen straight off it.
