Until the end of last season, I'd have agreed.
He looks to have stopped us shipping goals, perhaps at the expense of free-flowing football.
Calvert-Lewin has been instrumental in this. Building from the front, if you will. More goals would help. However, if we can get defensive stability in harmony with attacking prowess on a regular basis, I doubt there will be too many complaints.
Think Brands is probably doing a lot more than just identifying good transfer prospects. This is a long term project and there are good grounds for cautious optimism. I like the balance of this squad, there is long term potential there.
I’m currently of the firm opinion that as long as he’s got a hole in his arse Silva is incapable of being a top 6 manager.
...when I hear the negativity and fear about Gbamin after half a dodgy first unfit display (much improve today I thought) and remembering all the anti-Silva stuff last season I do fear we’re always only a couple of defeats away from the sky falling down!
Need to stick with the Brands/Silva combination and be patient.
Agree about Kean looks like bags of potential.
quick thoughts :
Keane looks like he is maturing into a very capable performer. Mina also looked solid again. Noticed a couple of tete-a-tetes with their players, certainly seems to have fire in his belly which is something we've often lacked in recent times.
Kean had a big impact when he came on, got involved straight away and the pirouette away from the defender and shot showed the class of this kid - he is going to be a real handful. May take a season to properly acclimatise and develop in this football but every reason to think he's the real deal.
Bernard did give the ball away once or twice but more effective, he has often flattered to deceive and you would have to hope there will be more end product in future.
Overall, a good, professional performance. We were a bit laboured at times and it's fair to say we didn't break them down often enough going forward, but still optimistic that will come. Should see Iwobi feature in the next game, think he was getting ready to come on until Digne's injury forced a rethink. Bit surprised he didn't get the nod ahead of Walcott really.
