I have been a Patsy fan for 22 of my 30 years. In that time, I have seen virtually all of the rare footage that exists and heard all of the recordings - ranging from studio tracks, alternate recordings, overdubs, armed forces radio shows and the like.
This CD is up there with the best of them.
The arrangements are fresh and done in good taste. They certainly support Patsy's original style which always makes you cry out of one eye and wink out of the other.
I especially enjoyed the live recording of "She's Got You." I have this particular version on a very obscure armed forces radio transcription LP but the sound quality was poor. This is now the ultimate "live version" of this classic song in my collection. That alone makes the CD worth its weight in gold. However, the other tunes are a knock out. I especially loved the arrangements on "Why Can't He Be You", "You Belong to Me" and "South of the Border". In some cases, the subtle additions of steel guitar or trumpet to these songs make them outshine the originals. Make no doubt. I am a purist. But I have to give credit where credit is due.
Thank you for what you have given to the fans on the 50th anniversary. Granted, I would likely have purchased "The Divine Ms. Cline" regardless (out of sheer curiosity.) The fact this CD is better than I could have ever dreamed makes me cry out of one eye and wink out of the other, much like Patsy herself. Imagine that.
