Pat, your son's garden sounds like a lot here where it is sub tropical. Common plants in gardens are banana, elephant ears, papayas, and tall pretty avocado trees. We are pretty much green all yr long, our mesquites do lose green leaves and they tell us when winter is over as are first to bud out usually.Of course our tall palms stay green yr long.
