We have neighbors stop for a little bit in the yard if they see us outside, but it's not like when I lived in the city and people were always coming to the house. Back then, if they saw our dog out and they were walking to the drug store or grocery store with their kid, they would drop their kid over the fence into our yard, and yell into us that they'd be back in a couple of minutes knowing our dog would watch and protect the kid. Mom was always in the kitchen and could keep an eye on things. Everyone loved the dog. Then when the neighbors came back, they would have a cup of coffee. That was a tightly knit community. I miss that.
