In Vienna grocery shopping was a procedure For milk you went to the Milk store where you got all Dairy products for bread the baker again all bakery goods the greengrocer for veggies butcher for meat etc and on Wednesday and Saturday you went to the market where the farmers brought their wares from the farms. Food was always fresh, and you went everyday shopping. There was no refrigeration. Then in the late 1950 the first Supermarkets came and slowly the stores changed there are still individual stores but the turned exclusive and very expensive. The markets on Wednesday and Saturday are still the best places to shop. Most people now shop on Saturday because women work now outside the home and do have all the conveniences that we are used to.
