I wish my Mom was here to ask. We were a military family with many making it a career. Mom's side Navy, Dad's side Army. Had two Uncles at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked but they survived. Another uncle fueled ships at sea near Japan during the war. Dad was in the CBI theater blazing trails in the jungle with horses and mules where motorized vehicles couldn't go. I found out years later from an Army nurse that the majority of the soldiers doing what Dad did didn't survive. That was one of the worst places to be in WWII. I can't think of aunts or uncles who died in actual time of war. But they all came back changed.
