The Hospice Nurse I volunteered for always said you must get through the "Four Seasons of Grief" without your loved one and after that, it usually gets somewhat better. It's facing the first Easter, the first Thanksgiving, the first Christmas, the first anniversary without your loved one that is so hard.
It's also realizing that your holidays will be different from now on. Not better or worse, just different as my therapist told me.
