Too many times, we have coaches not willing to get together with local teams or clubs, out of fear of the opponents "figuring things out."
As a state, we should have organized practices, as well as tournaments, to get our kids more prepared for the next level. We should figure out who our top say 42 kids in the state are and take them out of the NW. And not just any 42 kids, but our top talent. Need to be at least be a HS state placer. This also gives the non-placers something to strive for other that just paying money to go 0-2 at a tournament they really aren't ready for.
I'd like us to organize 3 teams to take to the America's Cup in CA and 3 teams to compete at the NWCA Duals in the midwest. Only getting our kids ready for Fargo, isn't cutting it anymore. They need more, much more.
Then take a group of another 42 kids, non-state placers or low placers and take them to other tournaments like the Pocatello Duals, or organize a dual tournament to get them more mat time.
We lack depth in our state. Even if the HS state tournament was combined, we'd still have an issue with depth, so we need to get back to our roots and develop our kids better. The cream will rise to the top if we are willing to make some sacrifices as coaches and do what needs to be done.
