Cade, Aaron, and Chavez have been on SCWAY National teams. Thye have wrestled at NUWAY events because to be frank in our state the top programs wrestle in our organization, a few do both but mostly our organization.
I fully support the Olympic movement - anyone who knows me knows I was up watching the cadet worlds with the parents of these athletes. I am friends with all of them and close to all their children.
Valentine Kalika has played a big role in their development in the international styles as has Ivanof for Chavez since he has moved.
I have always supported their Olympic aspirations. I would stake my life on the fact if you met any of those kids or parents they would speak highly of our relationship and tell you I have been supportive on all levels.
The fact is we have a model and it helps kids wrestle national caliber competition for pennies on the dollar. CA wrestling has become better as a result of NUWAY starting four years ago. We didn't kill the Olympic movement because like USAW we didn't know it was dying. Well we kind of knew it wasn't being managed properly by fila and/or fan friendly. The fact is we support it.
The NUWAY president's son Gabe Dean wrestled at Universities for Titan Mercury. My sons will wrestle internationally. Do not confuse the fact that just because we do not agree with the business model or leadership team that we do not support the Olympic movement. That is like saying if you do not believe in the vision of a certain political party you do not love America and you are killing it.
The truth is this is about money - NUWAY has zero salaries at the executive level -- we run it like a wall street firm -- we make investments and build our own events nationwide and contribute a portion to the national office. All card money goes to national office and is reinvested into the grassroots - the cycle grows and the enterprise floursishes. Our leadership is full of MBA's and economic guys with current or past wall street guys. I am sorry if we feel a wrestling organization owes it to its members to grow the franchise that they are bankrolling and grow the sport.
I wrestled USAW my whole life, was a USAW coach. I am all for the Olympic movement -- just like I am a proud American but if something is wrong it is my duty to try and fix it, if something is broke I try to rebuild it.
In closing let me state for a fact our organization or any organization plays a very small role in the success of its athletes. We provide opportunity --- they have to train for it, embrace it, and take advantage of it. They and their parents make the sacrifice. I don't need the credit for what I have done for those kids because I did not do it for them in hopes of getting any credit. I just implemented a system that they took advantage of, nothing more or nothing less.
