Newsom's been getting recent publicity for fighting against the wealth tax referendum in California. Good for him. What is almost always left unsaid is that he wants a federal wealth tax, which would keep people from moving to escape state wealth taxes.

Quite frankly, I think anyone with $10M liquid bounce.

It would also destroy home values….which may be a good thing…. But that is a different discussion. Lots of $5-$15m net worth individuals out there with 1/2 to 3/4s of their net worth tied to real estate. A one time 10% wealth tax would crash real estate as most of those people would attempt to sell a property to pay the tax bill. All of those high end properties would cascade the total market into a free fall….especially with rates at the current level.

Should be investigating escape options. This is for the best case scenario of where the US ends up in 25 years/less.

Every person of moderate wealth and kids should be investigating escape options should the US start looking like a mid or worst case scenario.

If I can swing it, I’ll do the NZ investor visa program and get permanent residency there. I’d like to retire in the next 3 years or less so I’m not sure I can pull off those simultaneously so I’m searching for other good cheaper options as well. I have to see how the next year plays out, but my plan is to have a 2nd residency by the time the boys finish HS.

The current debt situation in the US is unsustainable and when it goes to shit, it will go fast.
