If there was one female athlete who stood a chance of competing against male athletes in her sport, I would have thought it was Serena at her peak.

I didn't think for a moment she could compete against any men in the top 50. But I was open to the idea she could *maybe* compete against men ranked near 100. Nope. Consensus seems to be that even at her peak, Serena would have lost to any man ranked in the top 200. And maybe even any man ranked in the top 300.

But I think Serena is arguably the most physically gifted, dominant female athlete of our lifetimes. There may be a few others in the discussion but I would pick her. In a sport where strength is important but arguably not as important as it is in some other sports, I would have thought she might have fared a little better.

I'm no expert, but I guess women excel at some of those "ultra" length races/exhibitions.

I'm sure there's a scientific explanation out there somewhere.

Now, speed, high-jumps, etc?? For that matter, the type of thing that Dennis Rodman had where he could jump twice rapidly?? Obviously, males will have that record for a long time into the future. Maybe there's another explanation for that out there somewhere.
