on the table anymore, but if it was fighting wouldn’t stop it unless he took over the whole country. Second, the Ukrainians are ready to give them Crimea and Donbas. Not blatantly, but a cease fire where Ukrainian troops are out… what else can he want?

I can only imagine he and his citizens have a lot more criminals and ner’do’wells they want killed off…?

The conventional Russian army is largely a paper tiger. It really has been since the early days following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the rampant bandit capitalism which has taken place ever since. Poor training, generally poor equipment (at least en masse), poor logistics, poor leadership, poor morale and shockingly poor combined arms military tactics. Most high ranking Russian military officers are little more than de facto oligarchs who only care about preserving their own little positions of power.

However, the new Russian "Africa Corps" strategy is concerning. Similar to what it did throughout much of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, Russia is looking to develop client states and proxy armies throughout the African continent in an effort to thwart the West.

In many of them (most?), the Russians usually surrender. Not certain what these Russians were thinking. Hiding in a small dugout packed with explosives is not a winning strategy when the Ukrainians are equipped with thermobaric grenades. You either get out and fight in order to keep the enemy away from you or even better, just surrender.
