Feature story on Ben Humrichous's attempt to make the NBA

The NBA has never been a promise for Humrichous. From NAIA basketball to playing at mid-major Evansville, making it to the league was a dream. Two years at Illinois turned that dream into a reachable goal after Humrichous became a key role player and made it to a Final Four. Humrichous took that momentum after the season and used it to his advantage in his pre-draft process, working out for multiple teams.

“A lot of that (process) was dreaming big, but being realistic,” Humrichous said. “For a guy like me, my role is very simple, to shoot the ball and play great defense, you know, and be a great teammate. So a lot of that for the draft process was going in and just showcasing that right there. Not trying to be somebody that you’re not, but trying to show what you can do and what you’re about.”

Doubt he has improved his shot enough at this point to get a real shot at a 2 way

but it's not outlandish to try. He's a 36% shooter from 3. He needs to be at 39%-41% to have a real shot.

His best bet is to go play in Europe for a year and work nonstop on his long range shooting and then try to land a G-League contract next year.

All that has been crammed into five hoops seasons. I guess they call him a two-way player for good reason !! (Is the BT POY trophy the LUKA GARZA SUPER HAWKEYE TROPHY yet?? )

Meanwhile, NBA hanger-on Ayo Dosunmu has managed like clean-up minutes in 348 NBA regular season games, plus 15 playoff games over that same period. I'm sure they were blow-out games where his contributions really didn't play any part in the outcome of the game. Great agent though: managed to get him an NBA minimum (I'm sure) $22.4 mm/year over five years contract. Put one over on the dumas Minnesota Timberwolves front office, didn't they??

Who me... bitter?? Nah, not a bit.

Anyway, my bad for going off-topic. Back to the Ben H. discussion.
