So I finished Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man and the first season of Joe Pickett.

Meh on both.

Too much time was allowed to pass between the 6th and final season of Peaky Blinders and Immortal Man. Producers should have just left well enough alone. And to make matters worse, Immortal Man doesn't even really pick up where the 6th season ended. So I don't really see the point of it. It certainly did not address some of the questions I have following the 6th season. Pretty much nothing more than a rushed farewell to Tommy Shelby.

Joe Pickett was really disappointing since I enjoy the books so much. The books are pretty tightly organized and fast paced. The series was very plodding and tedious. What should be quick 2 or 3 minute scenes are dragged out for much longer periods of times. Far too many ponderous flashbacks to Joe's childhood. I don't recall the books ruminating so frequently on his backstory. And at times it felt like the script was written by an overly ambitious high school drama student. Overwrought dialogue, forced / artificial drama and just downright sappy at times.

Just watched Nuremberg. That was VERY well done.

One extremely powerful moment towards the end. Well, two.

Goering is arguably the most fascinating of the Nazi high command. A dashing and highly decorated fighter pilot in WWI. Handsome and athletic as a young man. Very charismatic and charming as an older man. Extremely bright. Well read. A lover the arts. A sybarite who craved fine cusine and rare wine. *Arguably* not the doctrinal, dogmatic anti-Semite that most of his compatriots were. Which makes him all the more horrifying. He didn't hate the Jews, per se. It was more that he simply did not care. I find that harder to wrap my mind around than a lot of the other Nazi horrors and atrocities.

UPDATE on that U-Boat 505 book..was pretty good. Shows it from both sides

Man, used to be able to see that (or at least imagine we could see it) from Lake Shore Drive. As usual, busing school kids down to the (quite boring) Field Museum, Art Institute or Orchestra Hall and going flying past Science and Industry. :-(
