The 5-foot-11 guard was the No. 7-ranked high school player in the Class of 2025, according to 247Sports, out of Davenport (Iowa) North High School. Bourrage appeared in 24 games at LSU and averaged 2.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 9.9 minutes.

Illinois heavily recruited Bourrage out of high school and was in her final three along with LSU and South Carolina. As a senior in high school, Bourrage averaged 18.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.6 steals. She shot 44.4% from the field and 29.5% on 3-pointers. She was named the Gatorade Iowa Player of the Year as a junior.

I don't buy that Blackwell is getting $5M. I don't believe that UK offered him $4M. $3M even seems like a stretch but I could see a lower tier team throwing it out there because they'd have to just to be considered in the sweepstakes.

No one really knows what these numbers are outside of a few random examples. Flagg was a generational player and he made about $5M at Duke....people will claim $28M, but that is the total value of his multiyear deals with NewBalance and Fanatics.

Blackwell is no where near Flagg in terms of talent, impact, notoriety, or marketability. Is he worth half?....maybe.

It seems the rumor mills had our NIL budget for this year in the 9-12M range. I still think that is inflated, but let's say $10M for sake of argument. If it was $10 last year, then logic dictates we'll bump it up to $12 - $14/maybe even $15M this year in an effort to repeat and try to go all the way.

That's a $15M budget and I can't see us going over it. I could see Petrovic going away and use that money with the "stefan vaaks/other new balkan" to push that total to around $2M to get another really top guy though. It would also help with the minutes distribution as I'm not sure how you really go past 10 guys in a rotation.

That could add 1.5M into the fray without needing to really replace any minutes. That would essentially give 5.5M to get 2 impact pieces (Blackwell/Vaaks ---- or 2 others). My guess is we end up with 2 guys we aren't talking about now.

and I do think there is a 50% chance 1 or both Petro and Bilic aren't on the roster next year. They very much could go away to make room money wise and minutes wise for better/younger talent. However, we do need spot backup minutes from experienced players and they both have good international experience. They'll also be 22 and 24 next season which is a huge plus vs. most 18 year olds.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say Bilic goes away and we resign Petrovic. Bilic isn't likely going to contribute meaningful minutes, but I think Petrovic can actually be really serviceable for about 10-15 minutes a game as long as he's good with that role...and I don't know why he wouldn't be. 10-15 minutes a game for a national title contender and I'm guessing $300k - $750k for the year is a hell of a lot better than $150k in Serbia

can't disagree this is the way it is now, guess as someone who has

had the same best friend(s) for 45 years and now as older ladies we still come to tears almost every day re-living/laughing about our past adventures and memories.

I mean, yes of course these players will remember the win last night (as will all the other teams in the tourney will, too), but I don't know..to me the long term beauty/sense of contentness of their memories (like I'm seeing with the 1989 team still hanging out together) will not be as much of a thing nor near as strong and meaningful as they age. And I think that's important for a fully rich life as one gets old, but that's obviously just my opinion. AND I suppose one glance at their bank accounts will supersede what I enjoy on a daily basis.

But yeah, in general the fans won't care whether we're an all Balkan team next year as long as we win..but I personally miss seeing kids grow from boys to men and the feeling of getting to know them over a few years. THAT is a large part of what I enjoy about CBB, because in the end it is just a game and all but one team goes home a loser.

Don't think I am the only one who feels this way, I know I'm not. I feel for the schools/fans that are, as you say "turbofucked", because I really think they are. It's gonna be the same Top 20/25 schools every year in that Sweet Sixteen (in general), isn't it?

I can’t say I took any more enjoyment from Coleman Hawkins or Trent Frazier as Keaton Wagler or Derek Harper (went pro despite ANOTHER YEAR OF ELIGIBILITY WTF!!) but I do see Keaton as a footnote amongst Illini greats like I see Jack Clark or Will Clark compared to Stan Musial or (sorta? Albert Pujols). Does Yadi get more love for his loyalty? Maybe 10 year old me would have given more, but the longer someone stays the more their weaknesses are exposed. I would love to see how things could work for Wagler if he stayed one more year… not many role models for that (wasn’t great for Toppin, right? Did it work out for TSJ- who was no Keaton).

There's no reason Illinois couldn't work with the staffs at Bradley and SIU on a wink and a nod basis for developmental guys for the pipeline and working out summer developmental leagues in Central Illinois. Teams will need to get creative and operate more like pro franchises with actual rebuilding years and "runs" but I see no way that Bradley or Drake or any other Cinderella mid major ever happens again barring a lottery winner funding a program.

That's a downside, but in the grand scheme, the Power 4 are much better off if Texas as the 11 or Iowa as the 9 is the Cinderella team. I know this is sacrilege, but I genuinely think that under the old regime Iowa had fallen so god damned far that it wasn't a foregone conclusion most years that they were one of the best two teams in Iowa. They cancelled the Iowa series because Iowa was starting to finish 4th in it. That old regime sucked because if you recruited a stiff, you were more or less stuck with the guy.
